RECON was selected to lead the first design-build approach to a Superfund cleanup. There were multiple distinct design and construction stages included during the cleanup.
- Treated wastes that included arsenic and lead, radioactive and hazardous slag, acidic sludges, various spent processing chemicals and asbestos-containing material
- Demolished 15 structures, including a 250-foot concrete stack
- Treated over 16,000,0000 gallons of hazardous wastewater from a 4-acre pond
- Constructed a soil bentonite slurry wall and installed an evapotranspiration barrier to promote the removal of contaminants from groundwater
- Consolidated radioactive slag and placed and capped in a low-level radioactive disposal cell
- Placed a clay cover over 86 acres
- Saved EPA $9,000,000 and reduced schedule by seven months with our unique sequencing approach
